Artwork Statement
The First Nations students of Indooroopilly State High School designed and painted the artwork for AAA in 2024 based on Cairns, sharing the narrative and the AAA logo.
We discussed icons of Cairns. The Daintree mountains stuck out in everyone’s mind. The reef was another icon that was excitedly discussed.
The fish, coral, and other sea life depicted in the bottom of the painting is representative of the reef.
The sand between the mountains and the reef show the yarning circle with people sitting around it. The brown colours depict the Aboriginal people; the white colours show the archaeologists learning from the Aboriginal people. The footprints leading into the yarning circle show the Aboriginal people and archaeologists walking in together. The archaeologists learning from the Aboriginal people, sharing the narrative and culture. The silver footprints are the ancestors, Elders past, walking alongside the people, ensuring the traditions, culture, and lore are being continued.
We enjoyed creating this artwork for AAA.
