Tours

The South Australian Museum invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander conference delegates to a special tour of the new Cultural Institutions Storage Facility. This new building houses collections from the South Australian Museum, along with several other museums, galleries and state government agencies, with each area purpose-built for the collections in its care.

Importantly, the facility features a dedicated First Nations space for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander visitors to access their cultural belongings and prepare their Ancestors for return to Country.

The tour will also include the History Trust of South Australia’s collections. While these predominantly represent colonial and migration histories, the tour will focus on understanding how they can be recontextualised to greater represent Aboriginal histories.

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about accessing your heritage and to visit spaces and collections that are rarely accessible to the public.

Places are limited due to the capacity of the collection spaces. We ask that you please only register if you are confident you will be able to attend, so that places are not held unnecessarily.

If there is sufficient interest, an additional morning tour may be offered. When registering, please indicate if you would prefer a morning tour.

You are also welcome to provide your Nation group when registering. Where possible, the Museum may be able to identify relevant collections from your community ahead of the tour.

Refreshments will be provided during a tea break.
